That Summer Day…

On a hot summer day at the park,

As I took my time away from the rest of the world,

Drowned into my loneliness, reflecting on my life;

There she was, sitting along on a bench, looking so beautiful.

So beautiful she was, she took my breath away.

Just like a baby I could not talk,

Wanted to reach her but could not walk.

As I looked into her eyes I saw all the beauties of the world.

She turned and looked my way,

I felt a shiver as she smiled to me;

She said “hello” and I said “hi”.

And so, she entered my life without warning.

Her angelic voice swept me away from my loneliness,

As she talks about her conceptions of life.

She filled my heart with so much passion for her world,

That I couldn’t care less about my world, about the rest of the world.

As I looked into her Nubian brown eyes,

She took me to a place so wonderful,

That I did not want to come back.

In her world I wanted to live for the rest of my life.

She came and took my hand,

Walking me into the garden of her heart.

A garden filled with roses, and tulips, and jasmines.

A heart filled with love, longing to be shared with the perfect lover.

Then she took a walk into my heart,

Cleaning, fixing and dusting,

Giving me a whole new heart filled with joy and happiness.

A new heart longing to belong to someone as special as she was.

She was the most beautiful African princess of them all.

Her sweet lips, her pretty brown eyes, her soft skin,

Are more than enough to explain why

I did not want to let her go. 

Then came the time for her to say good-bye.

She looked into my eyes and told me:

“Don’t ever let your love go, and take advantage of life. Live it as it comes.

Believe in yourself and follow your heart.

Be patient and you will find the one true love of your life.

For, without you, she’s empty,

But with you, she will always be complete.

Listen to your heart and you will know when she comes.”

Then she kissed me and went away.

I tried to run to her but could not walk,

I tried to call her back to me but could not talk.

With just a blink and she was gone.

I never saw her again.

I don’t know her name or where she came from.

I may never see her again.

But I’ll always have the memories of that summer day to remember her by.
